"I can of mine own self do nothing... I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me." — John 5:30 This painting is about absolute surrender, divine alignment, and the reception of transcendent grace. The tilt of the head positioning Jesus looking upward with eyes gently closed, captures a moment of deep communion between the Son and the Father. His face is lifted entirely toward an unseen, overhead source of light. The physical act of lifting the face to the sky is a universal sign of offering oneself up. It represents a state of being completely open to divine influence, unfiltered and unreserved amidst the fractured noise of our current circumstances.
