This painting was intended to capture one of the most vulnerable moments in Christ’s life — His time in the Garden of Gethsemane. As He prayed and wept, Christ faced the weight of what was ahead: the suffering, the sacrifice, the loneliness. In that moment, He asked God if the cup of suffering could be taken from Him — yet, even through the pain and fear, He with pure faithfulness saying, “Nevertheless, Not my will, but thine be done.”

In this work, I wanted to show an incredibly raw, human side of Christ: His suffering, His struggle, and His surrender to God’s will. It was a moment of real anguish, and yet He chose obedience out of perfect love.

When I created this piece, I hoped to portray a Savior who faced the hardest road imaginable, and still chose to walk it for his love for us.
