Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven. Matt. 18:20-21.
Four hundred ninety panels were first painted in dark reds, purples, and blacks. Each was then covered in gold and white, symbolizing the Atonement of Jesus Christ.
In Hebrew, the number seven is sheva, and seventy is shiv'im. Both numbers hold symbolic significance, with "seven" often representing completeness or perfection and "seventy" representing the totality of the natural order or a complete period of time.
Together seventy times seven suggests forgiving completely and throughout all time. Christ can ask this of us because He atoned for everything forever.
